The author takes through several prominent Indian folk theater forms including Jatra, Yakshagana, Chhau, and more than a dozen others. There are of course hundreds more theater forms in this nation of over one billion people living in over 700,000 villages, but to capture them all in one book might be impossible. Gargi's work is a fine introduction, filled with handsome pictures and illustrations that add to the glimpse offered by the text.
