Mountaineering in India
Mountaineering as an organized sport came to India after the first ascent of Everest in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. The book records a systematic development of the sport and the keen interest by Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru, Dr. B.C. Roy and Mrs. Indira Gandhi in popularizing this sport, as well as the work done by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.
It traces growth of mountaineering, the establishment of the training institutions, and over two hundred mountaineering clubs in India. The author is an experienced mountaineer and this narrative should appeal to professionals as well as to the large number of people who love to read adventure. Includes forward by late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
